I hope you had the time of your life. {Candid children’s photography by Songbird Photography}

Hello there.

children's photography
Have I told you how very much I love being an auntie? A few weeks ago, while my Sissy and Broseph were on vacation, I had the joy of watching the boys. Somewhere between dropping the parents off at the airport and Gabey Baby going swimming in a public bathroom’s toilet, I thought, “What have I gotten myself into?”

But, we made it work. Not only did we make it work, we thrived. We had an enormous amount of fun and snacks and giggles and playtime and learning and snuggling and adorable moments of which I tried to capture.

Seriously, I love just spending time with kids and families in their natural habitat, photographing them just doing their thing. Like… I LOVE it. Nothing makes me happier.

One day, maybe, this is all I will do. Maybe you will welcome me into your home and we will have a session over animal crackers and playtime. One day, some day.

But for now, I will keep my day job and cherish moments like this with my family, my friends, and my clients (who basically become my family and friends), share them with you, and take every chance to capture honest moments with authentic emotions during our fun times together.

With a Wink and Smile {Mt. Pleasant Family Photographer}

I love having clients return year after year.  To see how a family grows and changes is one of those things I feel so privileged to be a part of.  The Neher/Ogden Family was gracious enough to ask me back this year for their annual extended family photos and we made a party out of it. Well, a playground party at least!

These kiddos are the best.  It was just another Saturday outside with the family, complete with dizziness from spinning, laughter from playing, and crying from leaving.  Happy 2014 Nehers and Ogdens!  May this year be as fun as a Saturday at the park.

Holiday Smiles {Daniel Island Family Photographer}

The Green Family won me in an auction earlier this year.  Rather, I won the Green Family!  I was so thankful to photograph their little Lucy for her 2nd birthday (you can see that cuteness here) and now their holiday pictures!  I love photographing Lucy, especially at this age, because you never know what she will do next.  She is girl on a mission and knows what she wants.  Spending the afternoon with these beautiful people was the best thing to do!

Family Portraits on Daniel IslandThanks for letting me join in on your family’s fun, Kelly and Tim!  You are great parents and I loved watching the two of you interact with little Lucy.

Tutus on a Saturday Morning {Charleston, SC Family Photographer}

When I was a kid, I used to LOVE dressing up in this slip-dress.  It was all white with a huge tutu-esque bottom and a little rose on the top.  It was perfect and I never took it off.. Unless it had to be washed.  In that case, I swapped it out for my pink spandex shorts and one of dad’s old t-shirts.

So you can only imagine my excitement to photograph a couple of cuties in their tutus, as they played with their mommy and daddy.

I love childhood and all the fun it offers.  It is laughter and crying, creative thinking and challenge, all wrapped up in one lacy, furry, polka-dotted package!

It all started by the hand of God.  He put us together….Which was a great idea at the time and one I am thankful for to this day.  What a smart God.

Family sessions in the Southeast by Songbird Photography by Stephanie Herrell

We were roommates our freshman year of college and oh my goodness, it was the most fun.  Emily was wise and spent her days studying and preparing to be a nurse.  I spent my days distracting her with ice cream, flashlight sardines with our neighbors, leftover Thursdays (when we would come home for lunch and reheat all the leftovers to create some type of magnificent cheesy tuna mac with mashed potatoes and creamed corn), and of course, crunk juice parties when Alex would come into town.  I was surprised at how quickly and easily I became a part of her family and still to this day love calling Mama Gayle just to catch up.

Emily and Alex have always been one of my favorite couples to be around.  Even when I was single, they never made me feel like a third a wheel and our weekends were spent playing video games, eating, and racing down 75 (probably not the smartest thing to do).  To see them survive struggles, get married, buy their first house, and now have a baby has been one of the largest privileges I could ask for.

So when they recruited me to photograph lil baby Landon in his first house (which they are soon moving out of to go to Memphis… How fun is that!), I quickly jumped at the opportunity.

Our session was casual, easy, and entertaining, thanks to the constant prancing and photo bombing of their super cute maltipoo, Teddy.  He is just getting used to his role as protective big brother and finding his new place in the family, but wildly entertaining throughout it all.

I have no doubt that Emily and Alex are going to be amazing parents!  I can’t wait for them to get settled in and reunited in Memphis.  I am not going to lie, it’s partly so I can go visit and eat my way through every BBQ joint there, but also because they are such a fun, inspiring, and genuine couple when they are together.  They really function best when they are in the same city and I know Emily misses all the farts, laughter, and sports TV when Alex is away.  Congrats to you both on this very exciting time in life!  Welcome to adulthood.  May the ride be more exhilarating than racing down the interstate and more comfortable than mac and cheese.
